IMMATATE/Monster Truck

Monster Truck

We were asked the question what is art? for this exhibition in Monster Truck which was part of the programme for Dublin’s Fringe Theatre Festival ’08. Cheekily titled Immatate after Dublin and London’s modern art galleries the show was curated by Colm MacAthlaoich and Brian Coldrick. A variety of work was exhibited by artists-for-the-day from the worlds of graphic design, musical instrument construction and rug design. Gearóid’s piece, a triptych of photographs titled ‘artists jump’ was a simple reflection on the creative process and while referencing Yvves klein’s famous leap into the void also takes a wry look at his own inability to step up to the plate. Andrew’s piece which is part ready made part optical art takes found items in the form of chewed lollipop sticks and mounts them in a grid onto a 16mm mdf board which we sprayed white. We then sourced more Double dip lollipops and handed them out at the show to make 2 new works of art with each chewed stick signed by the audience. Gearóid had the particular pleasure of being interviewed by RTE radio with Curators Colm and Brian and Caroline Hancock exhibitions curator with IMMA, which if you are a total glutton for punishment you can listen to here.
